how important is the Day to seafarers
Every June 25th of the year, the Day of the Seafarer is celebrated globally to pay tribute to the millions of seafarers in the world for their vital contribution to the international seaborne trade, the world economy and civil society.
Imagine an item that you use every day - Maybe it’s your new smartphone, or your laptop, or your gigantic LED TV and your powerful sound system. For sure you ride a car, whether having your own or commuting in public. Think of the foods you always eat or drink, like your favorite Starbucks coffee, and the chocolate you give your bae. Cars, gadgets, foods, raw materials and many more, are all being transported by sea. Behind these every cargo being safely transported is a hardworking seafarer.
Day of the Seafarer
Day of the Seafarer is an official United Nations international observance day organized by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). It is observed annually to recognize the unique, and all-too-often overlooked, invaluable contribution seafarers make to the world and the well-being of all of us, often at great risk and personal cost to themselves and their families.The Campaign
The campaign is designed to be both educational and inspirational. The Day is an opportunity to educate the public and the world about the issues facing the modern-day-seafarer such as piracy. But, most importantly, it is the occasion for us to send our respect and gratitude to all seafarers.Brief history

The date chosen was 25 June, on which the day of the amendments were formally adopted.
It was first celebrated in 2011. The IMO has taken the form of online campaign using the social media networks such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube to garner support and asked every people on the globe to say “Thank you Seafarers”.

Governments, shipping organizations, companies, shipowners and all other parties concerned are encourage to promote and celebrate the Day in an appropriate and meaningful manner.The Seafarer
Seafarers are the people who operates the ship; handling the cargo, sailing through waters, fixing the engine and machineries, and basically do everything to maintain the ship seaworthy, to ensure safe and smooth delivery of the cargo. Not to say they also face unpredictable endangerment and social confinement.90% of the world’s goods is transported by ship, making the shipping industry the engine of the global commerce. At one point or another, our lives depend on commodities and essential items that we need every day, in short, all of us depend on seafarers.
